About the Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC):

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission enforces the Indiana civil rights laws and provides education and services to the public in an effort to ensure equal opportunity for all Hoosiers and visitors to the State of Indiana. The Indiana Civil Rights Commission will be an important societal influence working to eliminate illegal discrimination in Indiana.

About the Job:


The Public Outreach and Events Manager for the Indiana Civil Rights Commission is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing public outreach activities and events on behalf of the Executive Director. The Public Outreach and Events Manager reports to and supports the Education/Communication Director with preparing internal and external communications as well as developing and executing public relations efforts in addition to the responsibilities outlined below:

A Day in the Life:


  • Plans all agency public outreach events including commission meetings, conferences, hearings, CLE conferences, consortium conferences, human relation conferences, and others as assigned;
  • Plans and coordinates monthly commission meetings and is responsible for providing necessary information to commission members as it relates to cases being discussed;
  • Plans and organizes news conferences and other special events;
  • Coordinating and arranging travel for commission meetings held off-site;
  • Assists with the preparation and coordination of CLE (bi-monthly) workshops;
  • Assists with securing speakers for the CLE workshops;
  • Responsible for securing all venues for all agency activities, meetings, and conferences;
  • Develops personal contact with representatives of the mass media including newspaper, radio and television stations in a public relations role;
  • Arranges for television coverage including guest appearances on scheduled programs;
  • Responsible for branding all the ICRC sponsored events;
  • Responsible for set up of booths and volunteers at all outreach events, as well as representing the agency at these events;
  • Responsible for the distribution of ICRC educational materials during public outreach events;
  • Assists Director in evaluating proposed programs;
  • Directs activities of lower-level information specialists.

What You'll Need for Success:


  • Thorough knowledge of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission's programs and objectives;
  • Extensive knowledge of journalistic principles and procedures to be followed in preparation of news releases and various other informational articles;
  • Extensive knowledge of methods and techniques of disseminating information to the public and laws governing release of information;
  • Working knowledge of photography and audio-visual equipment;
  • General knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to the Indiana Civil Rights Commission;
  • Ability to use graphic presentation techniques when cropping and selecting pictures of professional quality for use by news media;
  • Ability to deal with public, other federal and state agencies, and news media in a public relations and public informational role.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:


This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
