About the Job:

In this Librarian role within the Indiana Talking Book and Braille Library program, you will operate independently at a senior subject specialist level providing an advanced level of technical expertise and research/information retrieval expertise to residents of Indiana who cannot use standard printed materials due to a visual or physical disability. The Indiana Talking Book and Braille Library is a cooperating network library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Provides direct service to patrons of the library by answering reference questions, performing reader advisory, and assisting with circulation as needed.
  • Oversees the cataloging of all audio, braille, and large print titles.
  • Serves as the liaison between the library and the vendors for the bi-annual Vision Expo and arranges speakers for presentations.
  • Coordinates annual summer reading program for patrons aged 4-18:
    orders materials, creates reading lists, sends mailings, tracks participants, and distributes prizes.
  • Selects and orders large print books from distributors multiple times per year.
  • Contributes articles to triannual newsletter as needed. Prints and mails out braille edition of newsletter.
  • Makes a concentrated effort to keep the collection clean and orderly.

What We're Looking For:

- MLS from an ALA accredited university.
- One (1) year full-time professional experience as a librarian.
- Eligibility to be certified by the Indiana State Library and Historical Board as a Librarian 3 or above.
- Background in automated circulation systems.
- Possess strong computer skills in Microsoft office software, library data systems, and the ability to stay knowledgeable about changing technologies.
- Enthusiasm and interest in promoting library services for readers with disabilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, written or orally, for a variety of audiences.
- Excellent customer service.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
