This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $37,778. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

About the Job:

The role of the internal communications specialist is to assist the Deputy Chief of Staff/Chief Communications Officer in the development and delivery of proactive, engaging communications that promote public health, address emergent matters, educate stakeholders and are aligned with objectives of the Indiana Department of Health.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Writing and editing content for program divisions
  • Reporting, writing and producing monthly agency newsletter
  • Developing PowerPoint presentations to keep partners abreast of emergent public health issues
  • Assisting with weekly webinar production and follow-up with participants
  • Promoting agency staff and work through internal and external communications channels, including LinkedIN, social media
  • Providing social media posts and performing social media monitoring in absence of social media coordinator
  • Writing press releases and field media requests as needed
  • Working with chief communications officer to oversee reviews of agency content
  • Staffing agency events in media relations role as needed

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to create efficient, accurate, and effective products, including but not limited to press releases, advisories, talking points, social media posts, and presentations
  • Knowledge of web practices, social media platforms, and content management systems
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive, multi-task, and prioritize workflow in urgent situations
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style
  • Commitment to concise, accurate writing that adheres to journalistic principles
  • Strong customer service and time-management skills
  • Ability to quickly learn agency policies and understand employer priorities
  • Ability to research complex questions from media and customers and answer accurately and in a timely manner

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
