Indianapolis, IN Indianapolis, IN Full-time Full-time $35 - $45 an hour $35 - $45 an hour TransWest is looking for an experienced Fleet Technician to join our growing team in Normal, IL.
This role will work with our gas and diesel buses and may assist with our EV fleet.
We are currently offering a $5,000 sign on bonus, plus great pay, opportunities for overtime, medical, dental, vision, life insurance and 401k with matching! Relocation assistance available! Through accurate tracking and scheduling, the Fleet Technician is responsible for repairs, maintains, troubleshoots and service diesel/electric fleet buses, charges using skills and tools that range from advanced computer diagnostics to basic mechanical tools; communicate and document solutions to non-technical parties, proactive fleet maintenance and needed repairs for fleet vehicles.
The Fleet Technician works with the operations team to maintain safe and reliable vehicles for staff and clients while reacting to service needs, conducting vehicle repair in the field, while ensuring minimal service interruptions.

Essential Functions:
Regularly inspect all vehicles for condition and operational safety; ensure maintenance of the highest level, including physical appearance.
Address immediate fleet concerns and maintain fleet service records:
trouble-shoot/resolve issues to reduce the number of road calls and ensure a high level of safety within all operations.
Track daily vehicle reports, maintenance, parts used and repair records Inform Fleet Management/Admin of on-board shuttle technology such as Wi-Fi devices, telematics systems and vehicle tablets to ensure the systems are functional and installed accordingly.
Complete all work orders as they are assigned as scheduled Other duties as assigned.
KEY POSITION COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance practices in a commercial setting, servicing a variety of vehicles.
Previous experience working with EV buses and/or vehicles a plus General knowledge of bus, vehicle systems, vehicle maintenance and the mechanical workings of gasoline, diesel and battery powered transit vehicles.
Hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical or other related field service experience.
Experience with electrical troubleshooting, mechanical troubleshooting, hands-on training.
Knowledge of vehicle electronics and aftermarket equipment used in passenger transportation Knowledge of maintenance tracking systems and applicable computer software (fleet telematics) Knowledge of software applications, proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, & Excel), and ability to learn other applicable software as required Strong writing and documentation skills with detailed tracking of work completed Excellent customer service skills Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization Ability to maintain regular workflow while responding to emergent issues Ability to work in a stressful and possibly disruptive environment Effective, direct communicator Strong EQ, flexible and self-aware Sense of humor Bias for action Requirements HD ASE certified a plus AC Certified a plus Experience working with brakes and suspensions.
Experience working with buses preferred, but not required Knowledgeable in reading software diagnostics (Insight is a plus) Power Train Certification a plus Minimum of three to five (3 - 5) years maintenance experience working with a variety of vehicles Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Must be 21 years of age Ability to be flexible in schedule to meet operational needs.
This may require occasionally working outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Must be willing to work in outside environments, which may include inclement weather.
High School Diploma or equivalent Pass a drug test and background check Benefits $35-$45 an hour depending on experience This role is located in Normal, IL.
