Responsibilities:
Scientists at Lilly are responsible for:
Ensuring reliability of our manufacturing systems
Searching for and implementing continuous improvements
Maintaining our facilities and processes in a state of compliance with US and global regulations
Managing capital projects
Designing and developing drug delivery systems.
The position is a scientific position in the Technical Services/Manufacturing Sciences (TS/MS) organization. The position will be made available beginning in July/August 2014 and will provide technical/scientific support within a dynamic manufacturing environment for development of commercial purification processes for E.coli-delivered products. The successful applicant will design and conduct experiments to advance process knowledge and support technical transfer, as needed. Scientists actively contribute to the TS/MS organizations, building a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, and the role scientists play in creating solutions for Eli Lilly and Company. Scientists interact with other engineering, manufacturing, development, and other science professionals.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
Understanding the scientific principles required for manufacturing intermediates and bulk drug substances, including the interaction of the chemistry and equipment.
Understand the chemistry and stability of biomolecules.
Develop appropriate laboratory-scale models for key process steps in purification of E.coli derived products.
Design, conduct, and analyze statistically-designed experiments to deepen process understanding and optimize processing conditions.
Understand scale-up requirements and, as needed, partner with the pilot plant to conduct appropriate scale-up work.
Provide technical support to process development areas if needed.
Document all work in an appropriate manner.
Mentor lab associates to enhance their technical capabilities.
Participate in technology transfer as needed.

Basic
Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent experience in scientific disciplines of Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry.
Understanding of protein chemistry and purification
Demonstrated record of scientific achievement
Demonstrated problem solving abilities
Ability to work well independently, as well as in teams
