Lilly is the 10th largest pharmaceutical company in the world, and has been creating medicines that help improve peoples' quality of life for more than 135 years. Across the globe, we are a leader in investing in research and development and we also invest in our employees in competitive salaries, training and development, and health.
The pharmaceutical industry is a complex, rapidly changing environment and we are looking for highly capable leaders to help us continue bringing innovation to patients.
If you are interested in being considered for employment at Lilly, we encourage you to review the following opportunity.
Responsibilities:
This position is for an experienced biological researcher to lead a group of drug discovery scientists within Biotechnology Discovery Research (BioTDR) Lead Generation. He or she must be able to lead in a complex interdisciplinary crossfunctional members, have a broad understanding of pharmacology, disease pathophysiology, regenerative biology, and strong written and oral communication skills. Identification and validation of new molecular targets for therapeutic application in diabetes mellitus, diabetic complications, chronic kidney disease, oncology, degenerative neurologic diseases and/or regenerative biology will be an essential role of this position. The successful candidate should be skilled at facilitating communication across multidisciplinary teams, coordinating complex cross-functional teams comprised of protein chemists, pharmacologists toxicologists, and clinical trialists, to facilitate development of novel protein therapeutics.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
Leadership:
The successful candidate will have demonstrated supervisory experience of a research team and the ability to influence and effectively collaborate with MD/PhD scientists in order to formulate design and execute in vitro and in vivo preclinical and clinical experiments.
The candidate must be able to constructively influence peers and management regarding therapeutic opportunities. In addition, the candidate must be able to lead multidisciplinary teams to advance and optimize lead therapeutic candidates, preparing them for clinical experimentation.
Accordingly, strong communication and presentation skills are required for communicating their research findings and team plans.
Deep Biochemical Pathway Knowledge:
Deep experience in a biochemical pathway of strategic interest to Lilly is critical.
The successful candidate must to apply this expertise to disease areas of strategic interest to Lilly (endocrine, neurodegeneration, oncology, autoimmunity and kidney disease).
Evidence of deep pathway knowledge reflected by multiple publications or patents centered on a particular pathway. Research efforts will concentrate on the identification of bioproduct candidates for clinical development that enhance the bodys ability to attenuate key detrimental signaling pathways and enable subsequent tissue repair, healing and regeneration in diverse therapeutic areas.
The candidate is expected to have experience with therapeutically relevant pre-clinical animal models and to have appropriate cellular, molecular and protein analysis skills to be able to validate targets of interest.
Drug Hunting Focus:
Familiarity with the processes employed in advancing a therapeutic opportunity from a cellular or molecular concept to proof of principle confirmation in vivo is seen as a significant advantage.
As such, the candidate is expected to exhibit strong problem solving ability and be familiar with understanding and resolving connectivity issues linking in vitro and in vivo research.
Basic
Qualifications:
MD/PhD, MD or PhD in Biology, Pharmacology, Pathology Physiology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
A minimum of 10 years of Postdoctoral experience in the areas of endocrine, oncology and/or neuroscience
Must have at least 5 years pharmaceutical industry-associated experience.
Demonstrated ability to develop and apply learning from in vitro experiments to pre-clinical animal models of human disease, and to provide input on design of clinical trials for human testing of the therapeutic.
Experience with cell culture and molecular biology/or protein chemistry techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot, enzyme assays, receptor binding assays, ELISA, etc. is required .
Knowledge of animal anatomy and normal/disease physiology, experience with animal dosing, care, and surgery, and willingness to handle/work with animals is desirable.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
Clear understanding of statistical theory and analysis of data. Familiarity with Bioinformatic tools and data bases (e.g. NCBI, GEO).
Familiarity with human and murine genetics and epigenetics including transgenic and knockout technologies.
Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by multiple presentations at national or international meetings and patents or publications in major journals.
